Prof. Beery's Mail Course in Horsemanship After becoming extremely successful in horse training, Beery decided to set up a horse training school, School of Correspondence in Horsemanship, to teach others his simple training techniques. He taught a great number of horse owners all over the country through his well-known home-study, horse-training manual: Prof. Beery's Mail Course in Horsemanship, a total of 8 books, published in 1908. Easily Understood Training "Green" Colts Overcoming Habits Other Features of This Course Contents Covered in the 8 volume set : Book 1: Colt Training Book 2: Disposition and Subjection Book 3: Kicking and Balking Book 4: Shying and Running Away Book 5: Bad to Shoe and Halter Pulling Book 6: Promiscuous Vices Book 7: Overcoming Special Fears Book 8: Teaching Tricks INTRODUCTION, My object in publishing these book as an 8 volume mail course, is to teach persons who desire to learn, how properly to train a colt, and to give some practical points and ideas in subduing and educating horses that have acquired bad habits, viz: Kicking, Balking, Shying, Running away. Halter Pulling, and vices of every description, that horses are so liable to fall into when they are improperly handled. JESSE beery's practical system of colt training. The plan I use in teaching my System of Colt Training and demonstrating the different methods of subduing vicious Horses is as follows: I have a tent that will accommodate over three hundred people. I usually set it up at some town where there are a good many horse owners in the community. I then take a green Colt (one that never had a bridle on) of some one of the scholars, and give it its first, second, third, fourth and fifth lessons before the class, to teach the class my System of Training, and to show them how fast a Colt will learn, and how well they will remember their Training when given short lessons and taught but one idea at a time. In connection with teaching my System of Colt Training, I would demonstrate methods of subjection upon all kinds of vicious Horses, and if there were any extremely ugly, bad Horses in the country, those were the ones that were brought out for treatment. These are only object lessons for you, to learn how to do it you must do it yourself. It is the purpose of this book by short and clear directions, and by the illustrations, to aid you in putting into practice what you learn and have seen me do. _____________________________________________ 3.
